2) What am I supposed to do after I lose my job?
The first thing you should do after you have been terminated from your position is apply for Employment Insurance. The second thing you should do, if it is your position that you have been wrongfully dismissed and are owed severance monies, is to contact a lawyer there are time limitation periods at stake and you do not want to have your claim barred because you brought it too late. Generally, lawyers advise terminated employees to complete their resume and apply for appropriate jobs. If your matter does go to court, the trial judge will expect you to have made reasonable efforts to obtain reemployment after your termination. You will be advised to keep a very detailed log of your reemployment efforts. It will benefit your case to have solid proof of your efforts to obtain alternate employment, rather than to simply state that youve made significant efforts to be rehired without any written evidence.
